Ballet, Tap & Modern Classes
Our Ballet, Tap & Modern classes work towards examinations with the International Dance Teacher's Association (IDTA), one of the largest dance syllabi in the UK. All examinations are government accredited under the Qualifications Curriculum Framework (QCF). Grades run from Preparatory and Primary and Grade 1 to 5. Older students who wish to take their training further may wish to study the Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 and continue to teaching qualifications with the Level 3 Diploma Dance Teaching Assistant and Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching with the IDTA.
Ballet is the core of all dance styles! This beautiful and graceful dance style has been the basis for technique in many dance styles, including contemporary and jazz.
Ballet classes at EP DANCE start from age 3, where students take part in our fun and imaginative classes which combine an introduction to classical ballet along with developmental exercises and age appropriate dance skills. Students from age 5 (year 1) begin learning the IDTA graded syllabus where they are prepared for examinations. All ballet students are given the opportunity to take part in our annual school show.
Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Two major variations on tap dance exist: rhythm (jazz) tap and Broadway tap. Broadway tap focuses on dance; it is widely performed in musical theatre, in shows such as "Stomp" and "42nd Street".
Modern Jazz is fun. You will learn to develop many different movements reaching to a broad choice of varying rhythms and musical styles. Classes are structured to begin to prepare the physical strength and flexibility required to demonstrate emotion through interpretation of any musical genre. One minute you may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, the next to a funky jazz style. You may explore contrast between expansion and relaxation or learn to isolate in a slick stylish mood. Whatever the atmosphere of the class, it will be a wonderful opportunity to react and interact with other members and really dance to express your feelings.
